JOBS AT PAKISTAN PETROLEUM LIMITED - PPL

INDUCTION OF FRESH GRADUATES AS TRAINEES

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has a two-year on the job training scheme in place that is meant for fresh qualified professionals such as engineers, drillers (mechanical engineering graduates), geoscientists (geologists & geophysicists), information technology and human resource professionals and business graduates, etc. The trainees are inducted in the company keeping in view their existing strength, company’s need and availability of resources required for their effective and meaningful practical training. The selection of trainees is based on competitive written test and series of interviews.

The two-year hands-on training provides trainees with a great opportunity to learn about the latest technology in their respective professions on the one hand and on the other it helps them integrate into PPL's business culture if they successfully complete their training and are offered regular employment in the company.

The aim of providing this comprehensive training is to equip the trainees with practical skills in their professions. They get valuable experience through working on state-of-the-art machinery, equipment and systems. At the same time, they get exposure to the petroleum exploration and production operations. We also provide them opportunities to develop their soft skills through teamwork that help them meet the professional challenges.

During the training line managers review trainees’ progress regularly and provide them opportunities to enhance their learning. PPL has a merit oriented culture and on successful completion of training, regular employment is offered to the trainees if:

· The trainee has acquired the required level of skills.

· The trainee’s performance justifies consideration for offering regular job in the company.

· A suitable regular position exists at the time.

Selection Criteria for Trainees

Engineering graduates having gone through a four-year degree programmme and others who have completed master’s degree in geosciences, information technology or management sciences are eligible for induction as trainees. Only recent graduates, from accredited local and foreign educational institutions, having first class academic record from Secondary School Certificate (or equivalent) to graduate / masters degree, whichever the case may be, up to the age of 27 years are eligible to apply. Whilst the academic results are important to us, equally important is candidates’ performance throughout the selection process.

The Selection Process

There are three stages for graduate selection as Trainees:

1. The Assessment Test

Here candidates’ academic knowledge, numerical skills, and general know-how are assessed. The test is usually of one hour duration and is divided in two parts:

a. General paper carrying 60 percent marks has Basic English and Mathematics together with questions that test the observation ability and IQ of the candidate.

b. Technical paper with 40 percent marks consists of basic and conceptual questions related to the professional field of the candidate.

2. The Application Form

On clearing the assessment test, candidates are short listed according to their test scores and those who come up to the company’s standard are called for interview. Before appearing for the interview, each candidate is required to fill out an application form carrying personal & family information, educational achievements, experience (if any) and other related information.

3. The Interview

Panel interviews are then conducted during which candidate’s academic achievements, challenges faced in carrying out specific assignments and personal qualities demonstrated in managing difficult situations etc. are discussed. Also, candidate’s technical know-how, confidence, mental alertness and ability to express ideas are assessed by the interview panel. As a two-way process, candidates are also provided an opportunity to ask questions they may have about the company and career development prospects. We give considerable importance to candidate’s extra curricular interests such as social/group interests, positions of leadership held during student life, pastime hobbies and involvement in sports. We use this information to assure ourselves that candidate’s university/college life has been more than just academic achievement.

How to Apply?

If you are keen to join PPL’s Training Scheme and find yourselves up to the challenge, please send us your one page CV by e-mail, post or fax. The CV should contain details such as name, father’s name, complete postal /e-mail address, landline & mobile phone numbers, date of birth, overall marks percentages obtained in SSC, HSC (or equivalent) with dates of each examination cleared and institutions studied in. A recent passport size coloured photograph should be pasted (electronically) at the top right hand corner of the CV.

Please do not attach any certificates or documents at this stage.

The applications should be addressed by e-mail to Bilal Ahmed Khan at k_bilal@ppl.com.pk with the position clearly marked in the subject line such as Trainee Engineer (Petroleum), Trainee Engineer (Mechanical), Trainee Geologist, MBA / BBA (Finance), MBA / BBA (HR) and MPA.

JOBS AT Attock Refinery Limited (ARL)

JOBS AT Attock Refinery Limited (ARL)

PROFILE:

Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) was incorporated as a Private Limited Company in November, 1978 to take over the business of the Attock Oil Company Limited (AOC) relating to refining of crude oil and supplying of refined petroleum products. It was subsequently converted into a Public Limited Company in June, 1979 and is listed on the three Stock Exchanges of the country. The Company is also registered with Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited (CDC).

Original paid-up capital of the Company was Rs 80 million which was subscribed by the holding company i.e. AOC, Government of Pakistan, investment companies and general public. The present Paid-up capital of the Company is Rs. 852.93 million.

ARL is the pioneer of crude oil refining in the country with its operations dating back to 1922. Backed by a rich experience of more than 85 years of successful operations, ARL’s plants have been gradually upgraded/replaced with state-of-the-art hardware to remain competitive and meet new challenges and requirements.

It all began in February 1922, when two small stills of 2,500 barrel per day (bpd) came on stream at Morgah following the first discovery of oil at Khaur where drilling started on January 22, 1915 and at very shallow depth of 223 feet 5,000 barrels of oil flowed. After discovery of oil in Dhulian in 1937, the Refinery was expanded in late thirties and early fourties. A 5,500 bpd Lummus Two-Stage-Distillation Unit, a Dubbs Thermal Cracker, Lubricating Oil Refinery and Wax Purification facility and the Edeleanu Solvent Extraction unit for smoke-point correction of Kerosene were added.

Series of Firsts

  • First refinery of the region (1922)
  • First to start dispensing major products through pipeline using computerized metering system (1987)
  • First to produce low sulfur furnace (less than 1%) (1998)
  • First to produce low sulfur diesel (less than 0.5%) (1998)
  • First to achieve ISO 9002 certification for quality control laboratory (1999)
  • First to produce low lead premium gasoline direct from refinery process (1999)
  • First to produce polymer modified asphalt (2001)
  • First refinery/first petro-chemical plant / first major industry to get ISO 9001:2000 certificate (2001)
  • First refinery / first petrochemical plant/first major industry to get ISO 14001 certificate (2002)
  • First major industry to get OHSAS 18001 certification (2006).

There were subsequent discoveries of oil at Meyal and Toot (1968). Reservoir studies during the period 1970-78 further indicated high potential for crude oil production of around 20,000 bpd. In 1981, the capacity of Refinery was increased by the addition of two distillation units of 20,000 and 5,000 bpd capacity, respectively. Due to their vintage, the old units for lube/wax production, as well as Edeleanu, were closed down in 1986. In 1999, ARL commenced JP-1 pipeline despatches, and in 2000, a Captive Power Plant with installed capacity of 7.5 Megawatt was commissioned. Another expansion and upgradation project was completed in 1999 with the installation of a Heavy Crude Unit of 10,000 bpd and a Catalytic Reformer of 5,000 bpd. ARL’s current nameplate capacity stands at 42,000 bpd and it possesses the capability to process lightest to heaviest (10-65 API) crudes.
